Saying goodbye to an old friend

For a long long time I’ve been a fan of WordSmith by BlueNomad. I’ve used it for the best part of a decade, from when I owned a humble Palm III right until the present day and my Palm TX.
When I upgraded to the TX I was horrified to discover that if I had WordSmith installed in main memory and used the TX’s inbuilt find function that unit would reset as soon as it hit the WordSmith records! Disaster – I tend to use find fairly frequently. A workaround was to install it to a memory card, but that the broke the ability to Hot-Sync documents!
A reassuring email from Blue Nomad support confirmed the problem and suggested it would be fixed in the next version. So I waited, and waited and started to feel increasingly nervous.
I sent a follow-up email a day or two ago and got this reply:
“We apologize, but at this time we don’t have plans to update WordSmith.”
So that seems to be that then. Of course this doesn’t stop me from using it, but I’m wondering about making the leap to using DocumentsToGo by DataViz which comes bundled with the TX. It was probably the availability of DocumentsToGo that has killed of the demand for WordSmith.
